American Oil Wholesale stocks SAE 15W-40 heavy-duty diesel motor oil across twelve brands, twenty-one products in all, from Mobil Delvac and Shell Rotella cases to our own American Oil drum and tote fills. Two of those twenty-one carry a full synthetic label. Nine carry the current API CK-4 heavy-duty diesel license by name, three carry the older CI-4 designation, and the remaining nine don't list an API category on the product name at all. One wholesale account at our Hialeah warehouse covers the full range, so a fleet or diesel shop can order every 15W-40 SKU on the same invoice as the rest of its fluid program.

This guide lists every 15W-40 product we carry, tier by tier, with pack sizes and, where the catalog lists one, the API category on the label, so fleet buyers, diesel shop operators, and Caribbean and Latin American export resellers can order the right one.

What SAE 15W-40 Means for Diesel Engines

The two numbers in "15W-40" are independent limits set by SAE International's SAE J300 engine oil viscosity classification, the standard the industry uses to define multigrade oil (SAE International, SAE J300). The "15W" is the winter rating: it caps cold-cranking viscosity at a maximum 7,000 mPa·s at -20°C and pumping viscosity at a maximum 60,000 mPa·s at -25°C. The "40" is the hot-running grade: a kinematic viscosity window of 12.5 to under 16.3 mm²/s at 100°C, one step thicker than the 30-grade oils that cover most of our passenger-car lineup. 15W-40 has been the default viscosity for on-highway and off-road heavy-duty diesel engines for decades, and it is the deepest single grade in our heavy-duty diesel catalog.

House Brand Tier: American Oil and Thunder

American Oil, our private-label house line, covers 15W-40 at both ends of the spectrum: a full synthetic CK-4 formulation in drum and tote only, and a standard-formula CK-4 line that adds a 5-gallon pail. Thunder, our value workhorse brand, carries 15W-40 as a synthetic blend in the 5-gallon pail size.

No Featured-Brand 15W-40: Prime Guard, Super S, and Starfire

Unlike our lighter passenger-car grades, none of our three featured distributed brands, Prime Guard, Super S, or Starfire, carries a 15W-40 heavy-duty diesel product. Coverage at this grade comes entirely from our house lines and the national and value brands on this page.

Value and Specialty Tier: Allfleet, TekStar, Xcel, Custom Plus, and Sash

Allfleet, TekStar, Xcel, Custom Plus, and Sash round out the grade with seven products between them, the widest brand spread of the value tier. TekStar alone offers three: a standard formula, a synthetic blend upgrade, and a tote-only value fill under its MG line.

Two Full Synthetic Options: American Oil and Shell Rotella T6

Of the twenty-one 15W-40 products on our shelf, across all twelve brands, only two carry a full synthetic label: American Oil's house-brand CK-4 full synthetic and Shell's Rotella T6 CK-4 full synthetic. Both trade the standard-formula and synthetic blend chemistry that fills the rest of the grade for a fully synthetic base oil, which typically holds up longer under sustained high load. The other nineteen products span standard-formula and synthetic blend chemistry, priced for fleets and shops that change diesel oil on a fixed calendar or mileage interval.

CK-4 and the Older CI-4 Spec: Confirm Before You Order

Nine of the twenty-one products on this page carry the API CK-4 category by name, the current top-tier heavy-duty diesel oil license introduced in 2016 and backward-compatible with the older CJ-4, CI-4, and CH-4 categories it replaced (API, Engine Oil Categories). Three products, TekStar High Performance, TekStar MG, and Custom Plus Turbo HD, carry the earlier CI-4 designation instead. CI-4 predates the 2016 CK-4 transition, and a CI-4-only oil is not a substitute where an engine's owner's manual or OEM service bulletin calls for CK-4. The remaining nine products on this page, including long-standing lines like Shell Rimula, Chevron Delo 400, and Valvoline Premium Blue, don't list an API category on the product name; confirm current licensing with your rep at time of order. Always confirm which category your fleet's engines specify, and use a CK-4-licensed product on this page when in doubt.

Buying 15W-40 Wholesale, by the Case, Pail, Drum, or Tote

Every SKU on this page ships from our Hialeah warehouse on the same invoice as the rest of your fluid order: DEF, coolant, gear oil, and grease. Fleets and diesel shops across Miami-Dade get next-day delivery, and Broward and Palm Beach ride the next scheduled route day. The $250 domestic minimum is easy to clear once a 15W-40 order rides with the rest of your fluids, and C.O.D. terms let a new account start simple.

If your shop or fleet runs 15W-40 in volume, the American Oil, Mobil, Shell, Chevron, and TekStar drum and tote formats let you pump it directly instead of breaking case after case. A single 275-gallon tote holds roughly the same volume as 55 five-gallon pails, so a fleet running steady 15W-40 volume receives and stores one unit instead of dozens of smaller ones.

Stock the Grade, Confirm the Spec

15W-40 on our shelf runs from standard-formula and synthetic blend through two full synthetic options. Nine carry the current API CK-4 license by name, three carry the older CI-4 designation, and nine don't list an API category on the product name. Request a wholesale quote to confirm current availability by formulation, API category, and pack size, and add it to the same account as the rest of your fluid program.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the SAE 15W-40 designation mean?
15W-40 is a multigrade viscosity classification set by SAE International's SAE J300 standard. The "15W" caps cold-cranking viscosity at a maximum 7,000 mPa·s at -20 C and pumping viscosity at a maximum 60,000 mPa·s at -25 C, and the "40" sets the kinematic viscosity range, 12.5 to under 16.3 mm2/s at 100 C, the grade heavy-duty diesel engines have run on for decades.
Which of your 15W-40 products are full synthetic?
Two of the twenty-one 15W-40 products we stock across twelve brands are full synthetic: American Oil's house-brand CK-4 full synthetic and Shell Rotella T6 CK-4 full synthetic. The rest are standard-formula or synthetic blend.
What's the difference between the CK-4 and CI-4 products on this page?
CK-4 is the current API heavy-duty diesel category, introduced in 2016 and backward-compatible with the older CJ-4, CI-4, and CH-4 categories. Nine products on this page carry CK-4 by name, three (TekStar High Performance, TekStar MG, and Custom Plus Turbo HD) carry the earlier CI-4 label, and the remaining nine don't list an API category on the product name; confirm current licensing with your rep before ordering.
Do Prime Guard, Super S, or Starfire carry a 15W-40 option?
No. None of our three featured distributed brands stocks a 15W-40 heavy-duty diesel product. Coverage at this grade comes from American Oil, Thunder, and the national and value brands: Mobil, Shell, Chevron, Valvoline, Motorcraft, Allfleet, TekStar, Xcel, Custom Plus, and Sash.
Can I buy 15W-40 by the drum or tote instead of the case?
Yes. American Oil, Mobil, Shell, Chevron, and TekStar each ship at least one 15W-40 formulation in 55-gallon drums or 275-gallon totes in addition to case and pail formats, so a fleet or shop running volume can pump instead of breaking cases.
How do I open a wholesale account to start stocking 15W-40?
Request a quote at aoilw.com or call our Hialeah warehouse. A $250 minimum applies to domestic orders, C.O.D. is standard, and your first order can combine 15W-40 with the rest of your fluid program on one invoice.
